1 Summer, 2 Continents

It's official! I will be going to Ghana at the beginning of July until the beginning of August (maybe mid-August) to work in a television studio with Projects-Abroad. I'm really excited to be working in the media industry in another continent! I'm a little nervous about flying alone because it's something I've never done. However, there will be many other volunteers in Ghana when I arrive, and I'm really excited to meet people from all over the world. That's one of the great things about travelling; meeting people from all over the globe! The friendships you develop are everlasting and you end up having a place to call home in many countries. I'm not totally sure of my exact placement in Ghana, but I should be finding out any time now. I will be living with a host family in either Cape Coast or Accra. This is a great way to learn about the culture and language of a country. For anyone wanting to get away and try something different then the resort deal, check out Projects-Abroad.org or any of the other links I've posted on the right.

Discovering My Roots

Another school year is done, and I'm off to Italy tomorrow. It still hasn't fully hit me yet! I'll be spending the next month in Italy first in Rome, then exploring various cities throughout Sicily. I'll be taking this adventure with my mom and boyfriend. My mom was born in Palermo, Sicily and hasn't been back since she moved to Canada when she was a young girl. I'm really excited for her because I know she has been waiting for the day when she will go back to the place she came from. I'm excited to see where she grew up and meet relatives I've only heard about.

So, the plan is to first stay in Rome for a few days with a friend. After that, we fly to Catania to pick up our rental car and drive for a week through Sicily, exploring all the wonderful places, and ending in Palermo. In Palermo, we will be staying with family and exploring the surrounding cities and islands. Then we are going to Tunisia in Africa for a few days. It's going to be an adventure alright and it all starts tomorrow!
